Page Permissions

In Kisimi version 20091025 the security you can set on a wiki page is much improved. The owner of a page can still set the normal Protected and Private options to make it read only or hidden respectively. But they can also set exceptions to those permissions or explicitly define permissions per user.

To view or change the current permissions, click on the Page Security link at the top of the main menu. The screen capture below shows an example of the permissions interface when editing a page. The owner of the page is mike who has been automatically assigned to the Advanced section and cannot be removed or altered. The other two users, alpha and beta, have full access and read only access respectively. Below the list of users you can also set the permissions that will apply to all other users. In this case every one else will not be able to view this page, it’s effectively Private.

Adding a Kisimi user to the list of specific permissions is as simple as selecting their user name from the drop-down menu at the top of the Advanced section. They will appear in the list of users and by default, be assigned View & Edit permissions. Once they have been added their user name will be grey out in the main user list.

To alter the permissions of a user you have already listed, just use the drop-down menu next to their name. You’ll see some feedback appear below the Advanced section to tell you it’s been done.

Removing someone from the list of users is as simple as clicking the icon to the right side of the list. They will be removed immediately and now be subject to the “rest of world” permissions applied to the page.

Remember that as you make changes to the page permissions, the security is changed instantly. You do not have to save the page or make changes to it’s content, for the permissions to be set. The security changes you make to a page are also logged and viewable in the Timeline - only to you. Other users will not be able to see the changes you’ve made.
